Maxine James (Owner & Director)
Maxine James, an avid volleyball enthusiast, embarked on her volleyball journey at a young age. From indoor volleyball to the thrilling world of women's beach twos, her dedication and skill have propelled her forward.
As a valued member of the Scarborough Solar’s Volleyball Club, Maxine achieved great success, traveling across Canada and the USA while enjoying both team victories and personal triumphs. She excelled academically and athletically at Earl Haig Secondary School, honing her talent as a volleyball athlete in the gifted athlete's program.
Maxine's passion for the sport led her to Seneca College, where she earned an academic scholarship, secured All-Ontario and All-Canadian Honours, and contributed to a bronze medal win at OCAA Nationals. Embracing beach volleyball, she claimed two Ontario "AA" Beach Championships and showcased her skills at numerous Canadian National Beach Championship events. Maxine's exceptional journey even took her to international competitions, and in her later years, she clinched gold medals in both beach and indoor volleyball at the World Masters International Games.
Currently, Maxine shares her expertise as a volleyball coach at schools, and in the volleyball community. Through Target Acquired Training, she strives to foster an environment of FUN, inclusiveness, versatility, and AN unwavering dedication to encouraging hard work.
Alton James
Alton James (Director)
A passionate individual/coach with a diverse athletic background. Having played a wide range of sports from hockey, to basketball throughout his life, Alton’s love for sports has only deepened as he continues to play golf in his later years. As a lifelong athlete, he understands the transformative power of sports—not just in building skills, confidence, and self esteem, but in preparing young people for the challenges of life.
Alton has extensive coaching experience, both in recreational and competitive settings. His journey began with coaching his own children—starting with his daughter, who played competitive basketball through university, another daughter in soccer, and later coaching his youngest son. With over 10 years of coaching experience, Alton has had the privilege of watching his kids grow through the sport, which has further fueled his commitment to developing young athletes.
In addition to his coaching expertise, Alton’s professional background adds depth to his approach. He started his career at Nike, then moved on to futher leadership roles , where he was responsible for training, coaching, and employee development. His experience in management has enhanced his coaching, as he’s well-versed in the value of training, mentorship, and growth.
Alton is deeply committed to helping each of his athletes reach their full potential. He believes that with dedication, hard work, and the right guidance, every individual can succeed—both on and off the field.
Josh Collins
Joshua Collins (Director)
Joshua Collins, an active board member of Target Acquired, has dedicated his professional life in serving the youth in his community. As an Ontario Certified Teacher, he understands the processes of learning new skills, managing large groups, as well as being a mentor to youth. Knowledge of differentiated learning methods aids him in understanding and identifying the unique needs of students to ensure they feel welcome and continue to take the necessary steps with their development.
In addition to his professional experience as an educator, he also has experience in the sport of basketball and has taken on many different roles. As an University Athlete he was able to find individual success, as well as team success which allowed him to set three school records and make the all conference team multiple times. His own playing experience continued into professional basketball, playing in multiple countries over his 6 year career. Through his own drive and determination he understands what hard work, dedication, and goal setting can get you and hopes to share his knowledge with the next generation.
It is his belief that the experiences and lessons learned though sports often shape who we become as people. Being a coach gives the opportunity to share life lessons through a mutual interest and gives youth an outlet to often times express themselves fully. Joshua’s experience coaching has seen him coach in different countries, as well as levels; from youth, collegiate and professionals.
Joshua is fully committed to enhancing the experience of the youth he is able to mentor. Sports create a unique opportunity to encounter adverse experiences, and build character through navigating those moments. He believe’s those moments are the most meaningful, and with the right planning, work ethic, and determination everyone has to opportunity to become the best version of themselves.
